While Norm Schenk was attending BYU in the early 70s, he became a teaching assistant to Larry Dean Olsen. Larry ran a Primitive Survival Class that took troubled youth into the wilderness for month long survival rehab trips. Such classes have been duplicated all over the world and Larry Olsen is considered the great-grandfather of all such classes and skills. For two intensive years, Schenk Knives worked with Larry Olsen to perfect the quintessential survival knife.
